The route between Northampton and Market Harborough boasts 16 miles (25.7km) of well-formed cycleway, on the base of an old rail line. This made for excellent walking and included 2 tunnels, 480m and 418m long, which added a little spooky excitement to the day. The shorter of these is perhaps in need of some work, as inside has developed a network of puddles, especially towards the northern end.
Today started with blue skies and crisp sunshine, but developed a chill wind and threatened rain as I sat still at lunch. Putting on jacket and trousers and covering my pack, I then proceeded to get too hot while walking, until it truly started to rain in earnest. I thought the tunnel would be a welcome respite from the weather, but it was actually just a little too creepy, with water dripping from the roof and something orangey growing from the wall like an infected stalagmite.
